popmonkey email

setting up your account - changing your password - other commands

NOTICE: popmonkey.net, and all the domains that i host email for, are subscribed to the Spamhaus Black List, a blacklist of known spam hosts. what this means if you use a mailbox that i provide, including mailboxes that simply forward email, some email will be rejected based on this blacklist. the SBL is used by many major ISPs and mail servers out there and is built into software such as sendmail and services such as hotmail.

setting up your account:

your mail server is: mail.<your domain> (you can also use mail.popmonkey.net, it don't make a difference)
your account name was given to you by the person who set this up. Note that your account name isn't necesserily the part before the @ in your email address!
your email address is <your email>@<your domain>

here's an example:
mike has a mail account at popmonkey. his email address is mike@mikedomain.com. his account name is dude_mike. his password is mikey
he enters:
mail server: mail.mikedomain.com
user account: dude_mike
password: mikey
anything that is sent to mike@mikedomain.com ends up in the dude_mike mailbox

changing your password:

this is done via email. you send mail to command@popmonkey.net. it has to be a plain-text email (so you outlook users beware, by default outlook sends html mail). include only the following statements (no sigs or v-card attachments!):

OPEN MAILBOX <your account>,<current password>
SET PASSWORD <new password>

so for example, if mike in the above example wants to change his password, he sends the following email to command@popmonkey.net:

OPEN MAILBOX dude_mike,mikey
SET PASSWORD mikey2

get it?
